Kristopher Volkman is the founder of The Fermentorium Beverage Co, headquartered in Cedarburg, WI. As the wearer of many hats including the president, head brewer, photographer, bookkeeper… and a dozen others, Kristopher is an entrepreneur to his core. In his previous life, Kristopher was a software developer and marketing professional, but even then, he home-brewed beer, wine, mead and cider for the simple love of it. Wanting to apply his experience to a new challenge, Kristopher thought to himself, “I’m brewing all of this beer every year, why shouldn’t I start my own brewery?”Kristopher is constantly searching for creative expression through scientific methodology… an approach to brewing that has led to many unique and exciting brews. In fact, prior to opening The Fermentorium, he had perhaps only brewed the same recipe twice. His true joy lies in experimentation, learning and growing from the experience. Kristopher is driven by a passion to brew an excellent beer. He is endlessly fascinated with how and why beer works and finds inspiration in both the science and art of brewing. For Kristopher, brewing is an ongoing interplay of both left and right brain activation that isn’t just fun, but deeply rewarding. Kristopher especially enjoys brewing foraged beers, sour beers, and wild ales because of the many, many challenges these styles present. And it’s precisely because of these challenges that Kristopher loves brewing these styles — they’re as close to scratch as you can get. A proud father, husband, craft brewing scientist, and entrepreneur, when he isn’t lurking somewhere around the production areas of The Fermentorium, Kristopher enjoys spending time with his beloved family, drinking Blatz with good friends, and thinking about his next challenge.
He is a quiet one, but Matt, our brewer, is exceptionally dedicated to ensuring that every recipe, every step of brewing, is done with precision and passion.
